Mozart starts events in Midsomer All posts

Last December I wrote about Wormsley Estate, near Watlington in South Oxfordshire as it had been announced that these glorious grounds were to host events in Midsomer, including  the Garsington Opera season.

Well, since then news has broken about which productions will be appearing during the brief summer season.
Garsington’s programme of events will begin with Mozart’s Magic Flute on June 2nd. This was Wolfgang Amadeus’s last-ever opera and one of his best-loved.

Vivaldi will also get a look-in as La Verita in Cimento ‘Truth Put to the Test’ will be staged on various dates between June 20th and July 4th.

Garsington’s preparations for the big event won’t just involve actors and actresses learning their lines. Just recently (March 1st) work began on a £3million pavilion that will house the performances and subsequent arts activities in South Oxfordshire.

Big enough to accommodate a stage, orchestra and seating room for 600 opera fans, it will feature Japanese designs, sliding screens, verandas and bridges.

Incredibly, the pavilion will be put up for just 21 days each summer – a bit like a Christmas tree is only put up 12 days each year.

Spokesperson Clare Adams told the Oxford Mail: “The amazing thing is that when it is taken down and stored away, the estate goes back to being a garden and it’s like we were never there.”

Wormsley is situated near Watlington, the quaint English town is central to  mysterious events in Midsomer which have featured in many Midsomer Murders episodes; its library doubled as ‘Causton’ Library in Orchis Fatalis.

Keen on the arts? There's plenty of creative activities in South Oxfordshire
