Summer and camping goes together like, well, Midsomer Murders and beautiful South Oxfordshire filming locations. But where is the best place in the region to pitch up tent? One of the best has to be Swiss Farm Touring and Camping Park in Henley-on-Thames; the same bustling market town which holds the famous rowing regatta. The park is set in the magnificent countryside at the foot of the Chilterns – an official area of outstanding natural beauty which is a magnet for hikers, cyclists and the rare and beautiful Red Kite birds.

Facilities there include the usual mod cons such as toilets, showers and laundry room but Swiss Farm also boasts an outdoor swimming pool and a new internet café. Perhaps best of all, located in a secluded woody area, campers can use a well-stocked fishing lake containing tench, roach perch, large carp, koi carp and many other magnificent types of fish. I just hope the Red Kites never swoop down to raid the lake!

The site isn’t just for campers as static caravans are available for those who prefer to sleep a little further away from the ground. Of course, if you do visit Henley you won’t want to spend all your time under canvas as there is so much to do in the area. A visit to the river is a must; if you’re around on Sunday 18th September you can catch a glimpse of the swimming leg of an international triathlon event.

And from 28th September to 2nd October 2011, there is a literary festival due to be attended by a stellar cast of writers – I’m just about to write another blog about it now!
