Oh what a feeling, it’s like dancing on the ceiling. That’s right, Lionel Richie has been confirmed to headline at this year’s Henley Festival. The event has been getting bigger and bigger over recent years but capturing a genuine global megastar like Richie is the biggest coup to date.

The festival has been going for 33 years now, which makes it just less than twice as old as Midsomer Murders and the two are probably the biggest current cultural players in the Southern Oxfordshire region.

The Henley Festival will run from 8 – 12 July 2015 and will feature five days of art, theatre and fireworks, so it’s really not too dissimilar to an average episode of Midsomer Murders.

The other headliners are yet to be confirmed but if they’re of the same calibre as Richie, then it’s going to be an incredible event. The ‘Hello’ and ‘All night long’ singer said of his upcoming performance: ‘I’m looking forward to playing at Henley Festival as I don’t think I’ve ever played on a Floating Stage on the River Thames before. There’s been some great acts perform over the years at Henley so I’m very excited for it to be my turn.’

We’re not sure if Lionel is a Midsomer fan (although we have our suspicions as he is a certified Anglophile) but we’d like to wish him all the best for the show. And if you’ve not been to the festival before yourself, we highly recommend it. While you’re there, don’t forget to pop in to The Argyll pub in the town, an establishment that has been used as a filming location in the show a number of times. You can even have your photo taken pulling a pint at the exact spot John Nettles was seen drinking in the show. How’s that for a great way to round off a good weekend?
